Which reading tracker pricing model fits your reading habit?

A summary, for this site's readers, of the Reading app price index, Q4 2026. Prices re-read on 4 November 2026 on the US App Store and official pages, before tax.

Reading trackers use four pricing models: free with no paid tier (Goodreads), free with an optional subscription (The StoryGraph, Hardcover, Fable, Basmo, Bookly, Bookmory, Literal), a one-time upgrade (BookBuddy Pro at $9.99, and Bookly's $79.99 Bookly Pro) and, for recaps rather than tracking, pay per book (Magic Bookmark, $1.40 to $4.99 a book after a free first book). Every tracker price in our own ledger was unchanged when it was re-read on 4 November 2026.

Should you pay yearly or monthly?

Pay yearly only if the habit is already settled. Across the trackers sold both ways, a year costs 16.5% (The StoryGraph, Hardcover) to 49.9% (Bookly) less than twelve monthly payments. If you are still building the habit, start on the free tier for a month and see whether a paid feature is the reason you open the app.

What changed in our own ledger?

  • Every price in the reading tracker price index matched when re-read on 4 November 2026.
  • Bookly's $79.99 Bookly Pro item is listed by Apple's catalog as a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Our ledger used to say its term was not stated; it now says one-time.
  • Bookmory, which this site does not profile, appears in the wider index at $3.49 a month or $30.99 a year.

Does it matter where you pay?

Sometimes. Prices can differ between the web and the iPhone app. Fable Plus costs the same in both places, but in the wider index 4 of 9 matched plans cost more inside the iPhone app, mostly audiobook plans. If a tracker sells a plan on its website, compare before you subscribe in the app.
